Our work with Nexus Enfield

With the aim of connecting the community for a better Enfield, the Nexus Project coordinates multiple projects to work in schools, youth clubs and community settings.

Tackling youth violence

The primary aim is to reduce exclusions and try to head off youth violence, through bringing together young people, parents, schools, businesses and the community sector. It’s hoped that these positive relationships will unite the community and empower them to progress positively, together.

We’re proud to be part of this, and The Gifted has been delivering our Butterfly Project in various settings as part of the Nexus Project since 2018. A six week programme, the Butterfly Project aims to raise young women’s self-esteem, increase confidence, raise aspirations and develop a sense of community.

Topics covered

Covering topics such as identity, self-esteem, health and wellbeing, relationships and future prospects, there are lots of reasons why young women may benefit from becoming a Butterfly. They could be experiencing anxiety or confidence issues, from an area of deprivation or a marginalised background or just need some extra support.

Impact

We have seen some great results. Since The Gifted began delivering The Butterfly Project, key highlights of the programme include 98% of participants stating that they have learned a new skill, 82% feel more confident and 70% are less likely to take part in risky behaviour.

Nexus is an ongoing project, and we are proud that The Gifted will continue to empower young women and make Enfield a more positive place to live.
