Creating a Community Space

Over 600 youth centres have closed in Britain since 2010 – but that’s not through lack of need.

In many of our projects we are told by young people that there is nowhere to go; that they don’t feel welcome in certain parts of their communities, and they have nowhere to just be. This can lead to them isolating themselves, becoming lonely, spending too long on social media, and getting into a cycle which impacts their self esteem and wellbeing.

The Gifted, funded by the Co-op Foundation, worked with young people to find a community space that wasn’t being used by their age group, to see whether and how it could be used to reduce loneliness for young people.
